The 11th of 13 children of John Geddes and Sarah Ann Eyre Heron Blair.
His father died when he was 17,the event ended his formal education.
Enlisted in the Confederate military in 1862,became an artillerist,served as a private.
In 1865 he started a store and auction business in Amelia county.
In 1867 he married Alice Wayles Harrison,father of six boys and a girl.
In 1878 he was an executive with the Stephen Putney Shoe Company.
Author of many books,A Standard of Value
,Considered in its Relation to Currency;The Prosperity of the South Dependent upon the Elevation of the Negro;Unwise Laws.
After his first wife died in 1894,he married Martha Reed Feild in 1898.They had four daughters.
He died at his home 2327 Monument Avenue.
Four of the sons,
Harrison,Gettis,Alfred,Walter.
