Marion Muenzenberger Bitter, age 98, died on October 19, 2007 in Austin, her home since 1999.

Beloved mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, and aunt ... she was a loving, generous person who gave of herself and her means to her family, church and others. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Bitter; her brother, Carl Muenzenberger and his wife, Catherine; and her sister, Louise Stromberger and her husband, C.J., as well as one grandchild, Rod Snyder.

Marion (Molly to many) was born in San Antonio on July 12, 1909 to Ernest and Marion Hunsdon Muenzenberger. Her mother died of typhoid fever when she was two months old, so she and her siblings were reared by Nelson and Alpha Hunsdon. She attended Alamo Heights schools through eighth grade and then graduated from Main Avenue High School in 1926. Following high school, she attended Sophie Newcomb College in New Orleans, where she received a Bachelor of Design degree from the art school in 1930. Her painted china pieces are treasured by family members.

She married Frank Bitter in 1931. A brief teaching career yielded to her life work as a supportive wife, mother of two daughters and an active church member at Madison Square Presbyterian Church. She enjoyed her Phi Mu alumni association and remained an active member of Chapter Y P.E.O. until her death.

After living her entire life in San Antonio, she moved to Austin to be near her daughters the last eight years of her life. She retained her sweet, kind ways and her unconditional love for all with whom she came in contact to the very end.

Marion is survived by her daughters, Nancy Snyder and husband, David of Austin and Barbara Ayres and partner, Sharon Rodgers of Seguin; seven grandchildren: Doug Snyder of Austin and Allison Daily of Aspen; Darrell Ayres of Florida, Brad Ayres and wife Kelly; Emily Ayres, Whitney Ayres, Jon Ayres and his wife Jennifer all of Austin; nine great-grandchildren: Bailey, Reed, Rider, Burke, Kelly, Geoff, Kaitlyn, Calli, Wyatt, Olivia and Ella; nine nieces and nephews: Carolyn Regan of Fredericksburg, Ernest Stromberger of Austin, Alpha Patterson and Marion and Ernie Muenzenberger of Corpus Christi, Paulu Hawkins of San Antonio, Jim Cass of California, Betty Chaggaris of Illinois and Bob Hood of Idaho.

Her family wishes to thank the staff of Southern Hospitality Home for the kind and considerate care Marion received these last years of her life and also the staff of Hospice Austin, who enriched the last weeks of her life.
