Here are my notes for Alice, from her entry in my family tree file- Rick Waggener:

From the 1850 Federal census of the City of Monroe, First Ward, Monroe County, Michigan, page 717, taken August 7, 1850; from ancestry.com, image 219 of 367:

Alice seems to be listed in household #194, the household of George and Mary Crispin. George is listed as a Machinist and having been born in Pennsylvania. Although I do not have any information on this, it seems likely that George is related to the Ward family in some way or they are perhaps a friend of the family from Pennsylvania. The record for Alice on line #6:

Alace Ward; age- 21, female, born- Pennsylvania

(The information that was in the Civil War Pension File for Owen lists the date of his marriage to Alice as 1848. This seems to be unlikely since he is listed on the 1850 census as still living with his parents and Alice is living here in the City of Monroe. - RW)

"McManus, Alice- -d. May 27, 1899, h. Eugene McManus

(Her husband was obviously not named Eugene, but considering that these records were all translated from Latin, it's not hard to see how an error could be made. -RW)

From the Monroe Evening News:

June 1, 1899

On the 25th of May, 1899, occurred the death of Mrs. Owen McManus, aged 69 years and 9 months. The deceased was born in Pennsylvania and removed with her parents to Exeter township, Monroe County, in the year 1837, at the age of eight years, when the country was an almost unbroken wilderness. On September 20, 1851, she was married to Owen McManus of Exeter. They purchased a farm, worked, toiled, cleared and improved it; and made a comfortable home where she lived until her death. To her were born twelve children- eight sons and four daughters- of which two of the later died in early childhood. There survives her eight sons, two daughters, six grandchildren and a large circle of friends to mourn her loss. Her illness was a long and painful one which she bore patiently. She was noted for her genial good nature and hospitality, and no wayfarer came that way but received a hearty welcome. The floral offerings from friends in Detroit, Flint and Toledo, were numerous and beautiful. The funeral ceremonies were held May 27th at St. Patrick's church, Rev. Jas. Ronayne officiating. The pall bearers were her six oldest sons.
