George Mortimer Buskirk was born January 1, 1931 in Belpre, Washington County, Ohio, the youngest of five children born to Walter Harrison Buskirk and Ethyl Mae Hawk. His middle name was his paternal grandfather's given name. Some time after the death of his father, George dropped out of school. He worked for the B&O Railroad most of his life. George married Patricia Kidder (b. June 11, 1931; d. May 10, 1992). The couple had three children; their third child, daughter Vicki Lynn Buskirk, died at birth on November 3, 1962.
