He was described as blue eyes, brown hair, light complexion, 5 feet 5 inches, and a farmer. He was discharged as a Private on 27 Mar 1869 at Camp Douglas, Utah Territory for expiration of service (Army Enlistments).

On 17 Aug 1870, Cornelius McCormick (B: ~1847, Chicago, Illinois) enlisted with Company K of the 8th US Cavalry in Chicago, Illinois. He was described as blue eyes, brown hair, light complexion, 5 feet 5-3/4 inches, and a farmer. He was recorded as died as a Private on 27 Dec 1870 from accidental burns at Fort Wingate, New Mexico (Army Enlistments).
