Joe Holzer is Killed by Auto
Struck by Auto Thursday Night Near Waco

Joe Holzer, age 47, of Waco, former Tours businessman, died at 2:40 p.m. Friday in Providence hospital, Waco, of injuries received last Thursday night when he was struck by an automobile driven by a Dallas motorist. The accident occurred six miles from Waco on the Dallas road. State Patrolmen John Cope and R. G. Ray quoted witnesses as saying that Mr. Holzer was walking on the highway pavement when he was struck.

Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at 2 o’clock at St. Martin’s Catholic church at Tours, Rev. John Geiser officiating, burial in St. Martin’s cemetery.

The death was the first resulting from automobile accident in the county since Feb. 4. State police files showed that three of five persons killed this year were pedestrians. The total compares to three for the same period of 1939.

Mr. Holzer formerly conducted a general merchandise store at Tours. He recently sold the business and moved to Waco.

Surviving are his widow; four daughters, Dorothy, Beatrice and Genevieve and Sister Arch Angela of Houston; three sons, Joe, Raymond and Wilford; two brothers, John of Louisiana, and Albert of Leroy; and three sisters, Mrs. J.W. Redden and Mrs. Albert Filer of Leroy, and Mrs. Rosie Berger.
