Co.G 6th Tennessee Infantry; pow Cumberland Gap; left sick in hospital when Army evacuated C Gap; held prisoner till spring 1863. returned to command at Carthage,Tn. spring 1863; suffered from measles, mumps,yellow jaundice. health remained feeble. Grown men who suffered from the above diseases lost far more than we modern folks realize. The resulting disabilities could include deafness, blindness, liver or kidney disease etc. Most of them returned unable to work little if at all. I appreciate the tokens left in their memory.
