Stevens Point Daily Journal, November 03, 1877

Last Sunday the death angel, whose visits have been all too frequent of late, came again twice, bearing the spirit of a wife and mother away each time. The first to be summoned was Mrs. Sarah Thompson. Mrs. Thompson had been in poor health for about five years. She came to this city from Calhoun County, Michigan three years ago, and for some time it seemed that the hope of a change of climate would prove beneficial, would be realized. About a year ago, however, her disease developed into a case of heart difficulty, though her friends never surrendered all hope of her ultimate recovery. On Saturday last she spent the afternoon visiting friends, returning home about five o'clock. The evening was devoted to her household duties, and about half past ten she retired, considerably fatigued, but apparently in comfortable health. About five o'clock Sunday morning her husband was awakened be her hard breathing, and arose only to find she was dying. In fifteen minutes she breathed her last. Mr. Thompson thinks she never awoke to consciousness after falling asleep the evening before, as she had not changed position, apparently during the night and was entirely unconscious when discovered. Mrs. Thompson was the wife of L.A. Thompson and sister of Mrs. S.G. Knox, of this city. She leaves a husband and five children to mourn a loving and devoted wife and mother and an exemplary Christian woman. She was buried on Monday October 29, the funeral services being conducted by her pastor, Rev. M. Evans. Her remains were escorted to the grave by a large concourse of Good Templars, of which order she had been for many years an active member. Mr. Thompson and family desire to render their heartfelt thanks to the many kind friends for their many acts of kindness, and expressions of sympathy in this, their great bereavement...
