Mr. Rhodes, for the last twelve years had been very successful in farming and stock raising on his farm southeast of Fort Scott. Twice he was appointed by Governor Capper on state delegate to the National Stock Show, once in Kansas City and again at Chicago. His plans were brought to naught when last summer he was taken ill with a severe pain in his head. At first it was thought to be ear trouble. After receiving local treatment for several weeks he consulted specialists in Kansas City. Examination showed that a tumor on the brain had developed. A delicate operation performed two months ago gave but partial relief from his sufferings.
When relatives realized that there was no hope of recovery, he was brought back to Fort Scott three weeks ago and has since been at the thome of his sister, Bertha Roberts. Many of the family were at his bedside when the end came. Mr Rhodes is survived by a wife and three children: Helen, aged 11 years; Alice, aged 8 and Robert Ross aged 3 years. His mother, Mrs. Sarepta Rhodes, lives at 1425 State Street. He leaves also many brothers and sisters, he being the second child in a family of eleven children to be called. A brother, Lewis, who was also 31 years of age, died many years ago.
Ross Rhodes was born at Colony, Kansas on January 17, 1887. He came to Fort Scott with his parents about twenty years ago. On March 26, 1906, he married Miss Inez Stodgell in this city. They moved to a farm southeast of town just east of the Lundquist Place. Since his long illness, a sale of his stock was made. He was a man of fine upright character who had many friends.
