Asa Edwards was born in Morristown, Vermont, April 12, 1816, and died in Brodhead, Wis., June 17, 1896, aged 80 years, 2 months and 5 days.

Mr. Edwards was married to Miss Fanny J. Reece January 1, 1838, and came to Wisconsin with his family in the fall of 1845. Of this union four children were born, two girls and two boys; the youngest boy being a babe of five months at the death of the mother, which occurred May 7, 1847.

September 1st, 1849, he was married to Miss S. E. A. Wood, and of this union nine children were born, four girls and five boys. Three children have gone before him; his second daughter and two little boys by the second wife.

All of his living children except three were near him to help care for him during his illness—a daughter in Milwaukee and one in Warren, Ill., and a son in Salina, Kansas. The one in Warren reached here for the funeral.

Our father was ever a kind and loving parent, always striving to teach his children to be honest, true Christians.

He had been an invalid for many years with lung trouble, but in November of 1895, he had a slight stroke of paralysis from which he never fully recovered. In March 1896, he had another one, much more severe than the first. On June 11th, the final stroke came, which in a few short days ended a long and useful life.

He realized his end was near and though he could not talk plain, made us understand that he was ready to go; his only concern being for his children. He wanted them all to be gathered up there. He said repeatedly that he was going Home. To his wife who is very sick he said "You will soon come", and bade his children care well for her while she remained with them.

He died in the Adventist faith of which he had been an advocate for many years.

He was buried at the Union church, near Oakley, Thursday June 18th, the bearers being of the G. A. R. Post of that place. The sermon was by Rev. Mr. Brown, Advent minister, of Milton.

His only surviving brother was permitted to reach here for the funeral, and three sisters also live to mourn his loss.

We the wife and family of Asa Edwards, Sen., desire through the columns of the Independent to thank the people and friends of Brodhead and Spring Grove for their sympathy and help during the sickness and at the death of our beloved husband and father.
