Accidental Wound Fatal To Hunter
Funeral services were held Sunday afternoon at Ione [Enon] Cemetery near Danville for Newt Reed [Reid] , aged 26 years, who died early Sunday at the Benevolent Hospital here as a result of an accidental gunshot wound received Friday while hunting near his home.
Young Reid who was an ex-serviceman, having served in the transport service of the United States Navy, was a highly respected citizen of the Danville section and his untimely death caused great sorrow in that community. He is said to have been handling a pump gun when the weapon exploded and his arm was torn away. The unfortunate man was forced to walk about a mile and a half to obtain assistance. The loss of blood weakened him to such an extent that little hope was ever held for his recovery.
