She died peacefully on October 16, 2008 in Orlando.
Elsie loved life and lived it to the fullest. She found her greatest pleasure when surrounded by her family, but also enjoyed spending time with her many friends. Elsie was a long time parishioner, member of the Friends of the Music organization and former Parish Council president, at St. James Cathedral. She was active in other community activities, including the Orlando Chapter of FOCUS, which she was instrumental in founding. Before retiring, Elsie and her husband, Bill, worked for many years as supervisors of the proctors for professional examinations at the Department of Professional Regulation where they made countless friends. She was also active in the Garden Club. Elsie's caring ways had an extraordinary impact on the lives of her family members and the many people that she befriended during her lifetime.
Elsie's beloved husband, Bill, and daughter, Anita Marie Cooper, predeceased her. She is survived by her two daughters & her son-in-law, Mr. Cooper; as well as nine beloved grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren, her two sisters, and many nieces and nephews.
Elsie's funeral mass was held at St. James Cathedral, Monday, October 20, 2008. She was buried next to her husband of 58 years, William John Smith, in Greenwood Cemetery in Orlando.
