THE PARIS NEWS; Not Dated; 'Clarence Mullens, retired rural mail carrier living on Rt. 1, Powderly, died Saturday at 4:45 p.m. in St. Joseph s Hospital, Paris, after three years ill health. Funeral services were arranged for 4 p.m. Monday at Fry & Gibbs chapel in Paris, with burial in Evergreen Cemetery. Surviving are Mrs. Mullens, the former Berta Nance, whom Mr. Mullens married Feb. 6, 1916; two children: Mrs. Melba Leavey, Dallas, and Bob Mullens, Rt. 1, Powderly; 13 other descendants. Also a brother, Lester Mullens, Paris, and five sisters: Mrs. Aaron McDonald and Mrs. Bernie Neveloff, Lubbock; Mrs. Roy Begeman, Amarillo; Mrs. Luther Brackeen, Montgomery, AL., and Mrs. Lowell Conder, Denver, CO. Son of Milt and Tiny Reed Mullens, Clarence Mullens was born Nov. 8, 1894 at Powderly, where he attended school. He also attended the former East Texas State College at Commerce, and received a teacher's certificate. He began carrying a rural mail route in 1915, retiring in 1962, but continuing his livestock operation. He was a member of the Rural Mail Carriers Association.' *From an undated Paris newspaper clipping: 'The funeral of Clarence Mullens, 75, retired rural mail carrier of Rt. 1, Powderly, was conducted Monday afternoon at Fry and Gibbs Funeral Home here by the Rev. Alfred Butler and the Rev. O. B. Rogers. Interment was made in Evergreen Cemetery, and the bearers were Robert Harold Mullens, Smith Mullens, Michael Gene Leavey, Jonathan Clarence Leavey Charles Leavey, and Stanley Archer. Mr. Mullens died Saturday in a Paris hospital after long illness.' *Son of Milton and M.C. Tinie Reed Mullins. Children were Clarlene; Robert Charles; and Melba Fay Mullens. *On the same stone with Alberta Nance Mullens.
