The funeral of Wm. Allen was held from the Methodist church Friday morning and was very largely attended. Rev. Shafer conducted the services at the church, the Ministers Male Quartett(sic) sang a song, and the services were very impressive. The floral offerings were beautiful and many, from the lodges, the church, business men and other friends. Many from a distance were present and the church was filled to its capacity as Mr. Allen was one of the best known men in our community and those who knew his home life loved him as a brother. The Masons had charge of the funeral from the church and held services at the cemetery. The Knights of Pythias also attended in a body.

Wm. Allen, son of Jeremiah and Hannah Allen was born near Monterey Ind., May 26, 1854 and died at Bunker Hill September 10, 1912, aged 58 years 3 months 14 days. The first half of his life was spent near the place of his birth as a teacher, then in the undertaking business and as postmaster at Monterey.

In 1893 Mr. Allen wife and son came to Bunker Hill where he engaged in the undertaking business. In 1898 he moved to Argos Ind. where, with a brother-in-law as partner, was engaged in the Furniture & Undertaking business. In less than a year he returned to Bunker Hill and started a Furniture & Undertaking business which, at the time of his death was by the firm name of W. Allen & Son. In 1905 he was appointed Postmaster at this place and held this at the time of his death. He and his family united with the Methodist church at Bunker Hill in 1890 and since that time has rendered service to the church as a steward.

His wife, a son, three sisters and two brothers survive him. Mr. Allen was a member of the masonic, Knights of Pythias, Odd Fellows and Macabee lodges.
