Mrs. J. R. Weems, 50, active in church and civic circles in Downsville and Monroe, died early Thursday. She was born in Downsville, Oct. 5, 1899, but had resided in Monroe for the past six years.
Mrs; Weems was a member of the Order of Eastern Star and of the Bethel Methodist Church in Union parish.
The body will be brought from the Southern Funeral Home in Jonesboro, which is owned by Mrs. Weems' sister, to the Mulhearn Funeral Home in Monroe where it will remain from 4 p.m. Thursday until 3 p.m. Friday, when the funeral will be held in Mt. Nebo Church, Union Parish.
A short service of prayer will be held at Mulhearn funeral chapel before leaving Friday for Mt. Nebo Church. Officiating at Mt. Nebo will be Rev. Ira Yeager, assisted by Rev. Carroll and Rev. McGuire of the Downsville Church. Interment will be in the Mt. Nebo cemetery.
Pallbearers will be: Roy Jones, Pete Medak, J. R. Spurlock, Thad Spurlock, Vestal Purdy and Elvy Roberson.
Mr. Weems is survived by her husband; a son, Glenn Weems, Myrtle Grove, La.; two daughters, Mrs. Ernest St. John, Shreveport; Miss Mary J. Weems, Monroe; Four brothers, T. R. Spurlock, Monroe; F. J. Spurlock, Houston; G.R. Spurlock, Texas and S.Z. Spurlock, Corpus Christi, Tex.; and four sisters, Mrs. R.W. Bryan, Jonesboro; Mrs. B.L. Messer, Zachary, Mrs. M.B. Roye, Kermit, Tex. and Mrs. Elvy Roberson of Downsville.
