Joseph married Sarah (Sally) Roden Pettigrew, a Scotsman. Her father James Pettigrew and mother Jane Harkness were from South Carolina. Sally's parents moved to Greene County, Alabama with others moving west and are buried there. Joseph and Sarah were married circa 1809 in South Carolina. Their four oldest children were born there in Abbeville. The others were born in Alabama after the family moved. They moved to Chickasaw County, Mississippi in 1842. Sally died in 1857. About this time Joseph started moving west first to Corpus Christi, and finally settled in Caldwell County after the Civil War. His name was JOSEPH and no documents show that he had a middle name.
