John Humble and wife,Martha Brown Humble came to the United States from Scotland after 1850. They settled in Rich Hill,Muskingum County,Ohio. When the Civil War began he enlisted in the Union Army. He was badly wounded in action and discharged. After he recovered he re-enlisted and was killed at Kenesaw Mountain,GA.He was survived by Martha and their children-Margaret 17,Martha 15,James 14,Mary 5,Emma 4 and John 2. One of their children died on the voyage between England and USA and was buried at sea.
