Bruce Downard , who died in a nursing home in Fontana , Ca. on April 29, 1984 was born
near Stockport on August 1, 1901. He was the only son of Joseph J. and Ingaba Morris Downard.
He attended the Stockport school. The family later moved to Fairfield. He worked
out of Chicago for some time and was married to Cleara Baker of Indiana.
After accepting a position with the National Life Insurance Company, he and his
family moved to California. His territory was there until he retired after 32 years of
work, because of poor health.
He was preceded in death by one son,
Bruce,Jr. and a sister, Margaret Downard.
He is survived by his wife, Cleara, a son,
Harold Richard of SanBernadino, Ca. and two sisters ,
Mrs. J. C. Snider (Twila) and
Joann Downard March, both of California.
Funeral services were held on May 3, 1984 in Decatur, Ind. with internment in the
Baker family cemetery. His body was accompanied to Indiana by his wife and son.
Mr. Downard had been vary ill in a nursing home for several years. The Mark S. Shaw Funeral
Home was in charge of arrangements.
He has many Downard and Morris cousins in southeast Iowa.
