Born Rosa Belle, she changed her name to Rose Ann. Her parents were Peter Deweese and Minerva Dewitt.

Mrs. R. Whitaker Dies While on a Christmas Visit

Mrs. Rose Whitaker, aged 82 years, who had made her home for the past year at the Brazil Hotel on N. Walnut Street in this city, died at the home of a daughter, Mrs. Clara Born, of 122 Michigan Rd., Madison, Ind., on Christmas day.

She had gone there to spend the Christmas holidays after having recovered from an attack of the influenza, the result of which apparently caused her death.

The deceased was born October 10, 1861, in Switzerland County, Ind., and come to this city some 17 years ago and made her home with three grandsons who are now in service. She was a member of the Annunciation Catholic Church and was well known in the community.

Mrs. Whitaker is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Clara Born of Madison, Ind., and Mrs. R.H. Evans of Chicago, Ill.; also one son, Charles C. Whitaker of Broughton, Mo. She also leaves several grandchildren among whom are: Francis Dehler, a master sergeant in the US Army stationed in Glendale, California; Charles Dehler, a first lieutenant in the Army Air Corps; Fred Dehler, a 2nd mate in the merchant marines; Mrs. Howard McCullough and Mrs. Reese Powell of this city, and Mrs. Floyd Gerkin of Lawrenceburg, Ind.; also four great grandchildren.

Services and burial will be at Madison, Ind.
