Edward Augustus Hammit died at his home in Avoca at 5:15 early Saturday morning. Kinney Funeral Home prepared the body.
The funeral occurred Sunday at 2:30 p.m. Rev. Joel V. Grimes of Avoca, assisted by Rev. R.O. Browder of the same place had charge. Burial was made in Highland cemetery, in Stamford. Deceased was ill only about 10 hours.
Mr. Hammit had made his home in Stamford. He was connected with the J.E. Jackson grocery store here, South Ferguson Street. He was well-liked by all. He is survived by his wife, Mrs. E.A. Hammit, also two sons: V.W. and Grady and four daughters: Mrs. Floyd Register of Anson; Mrs. Bailey Young of Stamford; Mrs. Glenn Sylvester of Big Spring; Miss Thelma Mae Hammit of Avoca; two grandchildren: Reginald Sylvester and Joan Young; three brothers: W.C. Hammit, John Hammit, both of Snyder; Luther Hammit of Los Angeles, CA.
Hammit was born in Cherokee County, Aug. 25, 1888. He married Fruzie Golightly in Stephenville, Nov. 3, 1909. The family moved here 2-1/2 years ago from Stephenville. He was employed by the Salmon grocery at Avoca at the time of his death. He had long been a member of the Methodist church
