Sue Smith Brooks

Sue Smith Brooks went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Thursday, July 23, 2009 after a valiant ten month fight with cancer.

Born on June 2, 1958 to Walter Smith and Wanda Daniels Smith of Newton, Texas.

Sue attended school in Jasper, Texas and graduated from high school in 1976. She continued her education at Temple Junior College and graduated Cum Laude from Austin College in Sherman, Texas with a Bachelors and Masters in Education. After graduating, she began her career in education, teaching many years as a high school English teacher and choosing to teach most of them at Jasper High School and Newton High School. Sue challenged each one of her students to be the best at everything they attempted, encouraging them to search for and accomplish their dreams giving them the feeling of self respect.

Many travel this earth but few leave, touching the number of lives that Sue Brooks did. She always knew God had a plan for her and woke each day with the desire to do God's work and His Will for her life.

Sue was preceded in death by her grandparents, Albert and Bonnie Smith of Newton, Buster and Irene Daniels of Newton and her father Walter W. Smith of Newton.

She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Brooks; her children, Mathew Quick and wife Naomi of Hallsville, Texas and Kenze Brooks of Newton, Texas; Mother, Wanda Daniels Smith of Newton Texas; Brothers, Danny Smith of Newton, Texas, and Paul Smith and wife Norma of Newton, Texas; Sister Terri and husband Paul Walker of Crosby, Texas; Grandchildren Ava and Carter Quick of Hallsville, Texas. Other survivors include Scott, wife Susan, and Collin Brooks of Senoia, Georgia; Kelly and husband Jeremy and Jackson Kerth of Kerrville, Texas, Joseph and Janelle Bryant of Seattle, Washington.

Funeral services will be at 3:00 PM on Sunday, July 26 at the First Baptist Church in Newton, Texas with the burial at the Newton Cemetery.
