Absolom Vandeveer, aged eighty-four years, died at his home in Auburn Tuesday afternoon. He had been in a decline for some time as the result of paralysis. The funeral was held by Rev. Taylor at the Baptist church yesterday afternoon. Burial was in the Stella cemetery.

Absalom Vandeveer was born in Jackson County, Indiana, September 12, 1822. His father was a native of North Carolina and for thirty years occupied the pulpit, preaching the doctrine of the old Baptist. Absalom was brought up in this faith and during his life has lived by it teachings.
December 11, 1845, Mr. Vandeveer was married to Delila Lieurance. This couple were the parents of nine children, one son, at the age of 17, was killed by a tornado in 1873.
In 1890, Mr. and Mrs. Vandeveer came from Illinois to Nebraska, locating at Stella. Mrs. Vandeveer was called to her heavenly home in 1893.
While a resident of Warren county, Illinois, Mr. Vandeveer owned considerable land and in addition to farming he devoted a part of his time to the breeding of Shorthorns. In these two pursuits he was quite successful. Farming has been his occupation and he was possessed of property enough in his last years to keep in comfort himself and a daughter, Miss Abbie who lived with him.
In the fall of 1894, Mr. Vandeveer was married to Eliza Kimberly who died the following February.
At the first of the year deceased suffered a serious illness and since that time was afflicted with creeping paralysis, death relieving his suffering March 26, 1907.
Besides his seven children living are twenty-four grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
In politics Mr. Vandeveer was identified with the democrats and never voted any other ticket.
Funeral services were held at the late residence at 10:30 am.m., Thursday and the remains taken to Stella where services were held at the Baptist church, burial taking place in the Stella cemetery.
