Paraphrased from Daily Herald May 20, 1936:

Glynn Holden, 14, is dead at the Jackson County Hospital as a result of an accident on the Old Spanish Trail west of Gautier this morning about 8:45 o'clock, when he and a friend, both riding the same bicycle, were reported to have been struck by an auto from behind. Holden was rushed to the hospital east of Pascagoula where he died two hours later, from a fractured skull and abrasions of the head, it was reported.
Holden, a 7th grade student at Lyons School, along with all students at Lyons School and residents of Lyons-Gautier community were going to Gautier to swim when the accident occurred. The driver of the auto is said to have swerved and run into a ditch in an effort to avoid striking the boys, but was unable to do so. The passener on the bicyle suffered a broken leg. The driver of the auto was charged with manslaughter.
C.D. Moore, principal of the Lyons School, was the first on the scene after the accident, and flagged a passing motorist, who took the boys to the hospital.
Mr. Moore stated that the graduating exercises which were scheduled to be held at Lyons School tonight will be postponed until some time next week, and also, that there will be a holiday at the school tomorrow in honor of the dead student. Holden took part in a play at the school last night.
He was preceded in death by a brother, Kenneth Holden. He is survived by his parents, D.Kilrain and Cammie Holden; a brother, DK Holden, Jr.; and two sisters, Estelle and Bailey Holden.
