Obit: Mrs. Gale (Darlene) Brown, 59, of Cherokee, died Monday, July 30, 1990, at the Sioux Valley Memorial Hospital following a one year illness. Funeral services were held Thursday, August 2 at 2:00 P.M. from the Boothby Funeral Home with Rev. John McGee officiating. Burial was in Oak Hill Cemetery, Cherokee. Darlene was born October 9, 1930, on a farm near Crofton, Nebraska, to Peter and Mildred Kruse Juel. She attended rural school through the eighth grade and then graduated from Bloomfield, Nebraska, High School in 1948. She attended Yankton College and afterwards taught rural school in Nebraska for a number of years. The former Darlene Juel was married to Gale Brown on December 31, 1950, at Yankton, South Dakota. Her home was at 1024 Park Avenue and she had been a resident of Cherokee for 25 years and prior to this had lived in the Aurelia area. She had worked as a psychiatric aide at the Cherokee Mental Health Institute for the past 27 years. She was a member of St. John's United Church of Christ at rural Peterson. She was also a member of the V.F.W. Women's Auxiliary and was an avid bowler in the Cherokee Area for many years. She is survived by her husband, Gale, two sons, Michael Brown of Cherokee, and Randall Brown of Denver, Colorado, one daughter, Sandy Trei of Spirit Lake, three grandchildren, and one brother, Wayne Juel of Conifer, Colorado. She was preceded in death by her parents.
