David Henry Holland Sr. and Mable Bridges of Buckhorn, Wake Co; and the gr-grandchild of Richard & Mary Holland who came to Wake County from Nansemond Co, VA ca. 1777. She is a direct descendant of this family's patriarch, Gabrielle Holland (1594-1660) of England, who first came to the American Colonies ca. 1628, settling in James County, VA.
Rebecca was 18 years old in 1868 when she married the 24-year old widower, James Thomas Leach, Jr., of Panther Branch, Wake County. She became stepmother to his two daughters from his first marriage to Lenora Jane McCullers.
Rebecca and James would farm in the Panther Branch area and become parents to 5 more children (2 boys/3 girls): John (c. 1869), Carl (c. 1873), Celestia (c. 1876), Nancy "Nannie" (c. 1878) and Floy James (c. 1881).
Rebecca was widowed in 1912 when her husband of 44 years passed at age 72. She survived him him 13 years, passing in 1925 at age 75.
