He was born August 1, 1913, in Cedar Crest, Jabez Community, Wayne County, a son of the late Joseph M. and Ula M. Thurston Burton. He was a truck driver for W. H. Ramsey Oil Company and a member of Sievers Lodge No. 461. He was a member of First Baptist Church, Somerset.
He is survived by his wife, Waunita Burton; two sons, Lowell D. (and Beverly) Burton, Somerset, and James L.(and Dorothy) Burton, Lexington; a daughter, Lois (and Lloyd) Tucker, Nancy; seven grandchildren, Tonja Barnett, Dewain Burton, Joseph Montgomery Burton, Jennifer Latham, Melissa Tucker, Matthew Tucker,James Burton; and a step-granddaughter Christy Mapes;and three great grandchildren.
