Ida Owens Cass, 95, of Hanson Street, Berea, died Thursday, Aug. 6, 2009 at the Terrace Nursing and Rehab Center. She was a Rockcastle County native, born Dec. 14, 1913, daughter of the late Edgar and Ollie Abney Owens. Ida was a hairdresser in Brodhead before moving to Berea in 1947 where she served as Personnel Director for Berea College Food Service, was a member of Progress Club, Daughters of the American Revolution, and First Christian Church Berea. She loved to travel with her family and friends, was an avid sports fan, and accomplished golfer.
Survivors include 2 nieces, Linda Owens Jennings (Glenn), Jane McKinney Davidson, (Robert) and 1 nephew, Edgar E. Dyer (Carol). In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Lester R. Cass; 1 son, Owen Ryland Cass; 1 brother, Charlie E. Owens; 2 sisters, Hazel Ruth Owens, Marguerite Owens Dyer; 1 nephew, Charlie Owens, Jr.; and 1 niece, Ruthetta Dyer Mangeot.
Funeral Service 2:00 PM Monday, Aug. 10, 2009 at Reppert Funeral Home with Rev. Randy Osborne officiating. Burial will follow in Berea Cemetery. Visitation after 12:00 Noon Monday. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Hospice Care Plus, 208 Kidd Drive, Berea, KY 40403.
