E.E. Dustin's Life Crushed Out Sunday By Tractor
Heavy Tractor Reared Over Backward, and Crushed Out His Life Within a Few Minutes.
Elmer E. Dustin's life was crushed out Sunday afternoon at 5 o'clock when the tractor he was driving turned over backward and pinned him between the tongue of the plow and the tank of the machine.
The accident happened at the home of his father, C.R. Dustin, who resides near the Christian Colony. Elmer was plowing in the field some little distance from the house. When the tractor came to a filled-in place, it mired down in the mud. The father, seeing from the house that the machine was stuck, started in his automobile to assist him. When withi a short distance of the tractor, the automobile struck a soft place and stuck, but not waiting to get it out, he went over to the tractor. Elmer thought he could pull himself out of the mire without trouble, but his father cautioned him. He gave the engine consideralbe gasoline, the wheels started to turn and as it got deeper into the mud, it lifted the fore part of the machine upward and plunged backward like a bucking horse.
The deceased was very prominentably known throughout this section, where he resided for a number of years, being in the barber business up to within a year ago, when he moved to Stockton and went to work for the Sampson Iron Works, but it was not long before he was back into the tonsorial business in Stockton.
Knowing that his father was behine in his plwibg, Elmer told him a couple of weeks ago if he would buy a tractor he would come out to the ranch and do his plowing for him.
Deceased was aged 34 years, 2 months and 28 days.He was the husband of Mrs. Lulu Dustin and brother of Rena Dustin and Mrs. L. O. Allison of Lodi and Orrie Dustin of Sacramento.
The deceased was very prominent among the Lodi Eagles, and was the leader of the drill team for some time.
