FORT MYERS NEWS-PRESS, Sept. 10, 1948
Collier Goldie, 23-year-old Lee County native and war veteran, died about 3:30 a.m. yesterday of injuries received in an auto accident on the North Side Tuesday night. Goldie had an emergency operation for internal injuries Wednesday but doctors at that time were doubtful he would live. Goldie was arrested by Deputy Sheriff W. C. Mathis and charged with driving while intoxicated after his car hit and wrecked another car driven by Mrs. B. L. Brown. Mrs. Brown and Mrs. C. L. Williams, her passenger, received minor bruises. Members of Goldie's family said he had been held in jail without medical treatment after the accident but Mathis said he asked the youth at the accident, on the way to jail, and in jail if he were injured or needed to go to the hospital and Goldie refused. Mathis said Goldie complained of a pain in the stomach shortly before he was released on bond Wednesday morning. E. M. Magaha, assistant state attorney, said no inquest was planned. Goldie is survived by his parents, High Goldie, Jr. and Mrs. Irene Sutton; grandparents Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Goldie and Mr. and Mrs. W. C. Collier, two uncles, Carl and H. R. Collier, and five aunts, Mrs. Albert Hansen, Mrs. Robert Dennison, Mrs. Marion Carson, Mrs Owen Daughtery and Mrs. Billie Wiggins. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. today from the chapel of Lawrence A. Powell, Inc., with the Rev. Millard Cleveland, officiating. Members of the American Legion will be pallbearers and interment will be in Fort Myers Cemetery
