"A heart is not judged by how much you love; but by how much you are loved by others." - The Wizard of Oz.

Karen Reinerth Abadie, beloved wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, and friend, passed away on Wednesday, July 8, 2009 in the presence of her loving family. She was 53 years old and was a life-long resident of the New Orleans area.

Karen is survived by her loving husband of 30 years, Kent F. Abadie, three loving children, Jennifer, Ryan, and Elizabeth Abadie. She is also survived by her daughter-in-law, Jacqueline Volpi Abadie, and granddaughter, Ava Abadie. She is also survived by her parents, Charles and Mercedes Reinerth, two brothers, Bobby and Jon Reinerth, and sister and best friend, Kim Marin. She is survived by two nephews, Matthew Marin and Bobby Reinerth, and two nieces, Melissa Marin and Morgan Torres. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Peter and Rita Ascani, and Charles and Hortense Reinerth. She was a loving mom to her pets, Beau, Tinsley, Stella, and Skybird.

Karen was a graduate of Archbishop Chapelle High School, and a devoted wife, mother, and homemaker. She was not only an extraordinary mother; Karen was a committed volunteer and dedicated her time to East Jefferson General Hospital Emergency Room, St. Philip Neri School, St. Mary's Dominican High School, and Brother Martin High School. Karen was an active member of the East Jefferson General Hospital Auxillary and the X Club.

Karen was passionate about her family and her home, touching the lives of so many with her annual Halloween party and family events. She was a compassionate person with a lifelong mission to make all of whom she encountered feel special. She knew her mission was accomplished with a smile, laugh, or sparkle from one's eyes. The warmth of her heart instantly established her presence in any venue. Countless lives have been touched by this wonderful woman. A ray of sunshine has faded from our lives.

Karen was generous and caring. She was funny and always the life of the party. She loved children, especially her granddaughter, Ava, who was the light of her life. We will all miss her so very much.

Relatives, loved ones, and friends of East Jefferson Hospital, Archbishop Chapelle High School, St. Philip Neri, Dominican High School, Brother Martin High School, Shell Exploration & Production Company, American Bureau of Shipping, Louisiana Cancer Research Consortium, LSU Health Sciences Center, and Tulane University Health Sciences Center are invited to visit from 11-1:30 PM on Monday, July 13, 2009 at Jacob Schoen Funeral Home, 3827 Canal Street, New Orleans, LA.
