James Stuart Akers, age 58, passed away Friday, March 27, 2009 in Marion. He was born in Pulaski on Sept. 4, 1950 to Nellie Warburton Akers & the late William G. Akers. He had been self-employed in the construction industry. Survivors include his mother, Nellie Warburton Akers; one son, James S. Akers Jr., one sister, Onaria Hayes; special niece and nephew, Abraham Kaufman and SharonBeth Vitale; special great nephews, Malachi and Christian Travis; other nieces and nephews, Christopher Travis, James Travis, Kyle Vitale, Abbygayle Vitale, Laura, Linda, Jenny, Kaitlyn and Nicole; devoted uncle, Lewis Warburton; devoted aunt & uncle, Ivia & Willard Knode; and a host of other family members. Graveside funeral services will be held Monday, March 30, 2009 at 1 p.m. at the Round Hill Cemetery in Marion with Rev. John Grimm officiating. Visiting will be at the home of niece, SharonBeth Vitale, 137 Jordan St., Dublin. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to James Akers Memorial Fund, c/o 430 Magazine St., Pulaski, VA 24301. Bradley's Funeral Home of Marion is serving the family.
