Laughland "Lot" Murphy was the son of James Laughland Murphy, Sr. and Margaret Galbreath.
Old Bluff Presbyterian Church Baptismal Records, Cumberland County, North Carolina...baptised September 24, 1897...Old Bluff Presbyterian Church, Wade, Cumberland County, N.C.
"Lot" Murphy was one of the original pioneers of Laclede County, Missouri (Lebanon) These settlements were made about 1834.
It shall by the duty of these commissioners to meet at the house of L. Murphy, as soon as they can conveniently do so, and proceed to the selection of a site for the seat of justice. They are hereby instructed by the fifth section of 'An Act to provide for the organization of counties hereafter established,' approved February 6, 1848. It was said that some favored locating the Laclede County Seat on Uncle Lot Murphy's farm on the Big Road. However, Lot's wife and other neighbors strongly objected. Another pioneer donated land for the development.
The lands embraced in the territory of Laclede County weren't surveyed into sections, townships and ranges, and put into market and made subject to entry until from 1835 to 1840. To give a more extended list of early settlers, indicates Township 14, Range 16--Laughland Murphy, Benjamin Hooker and William McPhail in 1846.
Lauchland Murphy married Nancy M. Lunderman on April 3, 1828 in Hopkinsville, Christian County, Kentucky. Nancy was the daughter of John Lunderman and Mary "Polly" Jackson.
