In 1945, "Dudie" became a partner with Neno Davi in the Purse Seiner the "New Roma", one of the most successful sardine fishing boats of Monterey Bay. After a successful fishing career, he retired to enjoy golf, fishing, and cooking as a labor of love, for family and friends.
Famous for his calamari recipe, Sicilian cookies and witty sense of humor, he drew crowds of hungry campers to his Big Sur campsite every Memorial Weekend, to enjoy his huge pots of garlic pasta and colorful plates of fried squid. Cooking was his passion and his quick wit unmatched.
He is survived by his loving wife of 69 years; his three sons and his daughter, Cesca; six grandchildren: Tory, Andrew, Ann, Anthony, Vanessa and Rachelle; and four grandchildren. A heartfelt thanks from "Dudie" to Linda Lee Rappa.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at San Carlos Cathedral, Saturday, August 22, 2009 at 9:30am. Published in the Monterey Herald on 8/20/2009.
