Author. Great-nephew of Leopold von Sacher-Masoch, the famous author. After having first embarked on a career as a chemist he increasingly worked as an author and he also was politically active. After the end of the 2nd world war he was one of the co-founders of the Austrian PEN-club and their first secretary general after 1945. His works often deal with the last decades of the Danube monarchy in a critical manner. After his death he was buried in a grave of honour. His widow donated a literary prize in his memory in 1994, the Alexander-Sacher-Masoch-prize.
