John Stockton, Jr., (c.1785-c.1835) of Stockton's Valley, Clinton County, Kentucky

John Stockton, Jr., was a son of Margaret "Peggy" (nee unknown) and John Stockton, Sr., now known as "Smith Creek" John Stockton. It appears that John Stockton, Jr., was raised on Smith Creek just a few properties away from his grandfather, Thomas Stockton, Sr., (c.1740-1809), the first settler in what is now Clinton County, Kentucky. Stockton's Valley is named after Thomas Stockton, Sr. When Thomas settled there it was Cumberland County and in 1836 became newly formed Clinton County.

John appears to have been born about 1785, maybe on his grandfather's property on the north side of the French Broad River in what is now Sevier County, Tennessee. John and his wife Lucretia (nee Daniel) appear to have died in Morgan County, Illinois, in about 1835.

John moved from Smith Creek to Ill Will Creek. This is still in the very large Stockton's Valley. Plat maps show that John lived next to Wyatt Daniel, the father of Lucretia Daniel.

John married Lucretia Daniel on May 16, 1805. They moved to Overton County, Tennessee, and later to Morgan County, Illinois. It appears that both John and Lucretia Stockton died in Morgan County, Illinois, in the mid 1830s.

It has been reported that John and Lucretia are buried at the old Jake Redding farm in Morgan County, Illinois. Their markers have not been located.
