William Howard Bellew, 93, died of heart failure Thursday, Aug. 27, 2009, in Seminole, Fla. He was born in Blount County but moved to Lakeland, Fla., in 1957. He was a member of Lakeland's Parkview Baptist Church and had retired from the Polk County Board of Education, where he worked in the transportation division. His wife Lillie Bryan Bellew, also a native of Blount County, predeceased him. Predeceasing him in addition to his wife were parents William Henry and Minnie Maynor Bellew; brothers Jay Bellew, Ernest Bellew, Curt Bellew, and Ollie Bellew; sisters Nell B. Harvey and Jessie Ruth Vick, all of whom were born and reared in Blount County. Graveside services at Bethel Cemetery in Lakeland, Fla., were held Monday, Aug. 31, at 11 a.m. The cemetery is located at 3125 W. Socrum Loop Road, Lakeland, Florida.
