Ethel Boer, 100, of Sheldon died Thursday, March 7, 2002, at Oak Park Care Center in Sheldon. Services were held Monday, March 11 at First Christian Reformed Church in Sheldon. Rev. John Vermeer officiated. Burial was at Eastlawn Cemetery under the direction of the Sheldon Funeral Home.

Ethel was born Aug. 12, 1901, at Hospers, the daughter of Fred and Alice (Siersma) Holtrop. She was raised and attended school in Hospers. She married Jacob Boer of Doon on July 20, 1924, at Doon. They lived and farmed in Doon until 1943 when Ihey moved to a farm near

Sheldon. In 1960 they retired and moved into Sheldon. Mr, Boer died Feb. 3, 1972. Ethel moved into the Christian Retirement Home in Sheldon in 1985. In 1996 she moved to Oak Park Care Center in Sheldon. Mrs. Boer was a member of First Christian Reformed Church and was active in the Golden Hour Circle and the Christian School Auxiliary.

Survivors include three daughters, Myrtle Bootsma of Sheldon, Alvina and her husband Gary Hiemstra of George and Phyllis and her husband Andy Steensma of Grand Rapids, Mich,; seven sons, Fred Boer and his wife Gerry of Sanborn, Henry Boer and his wife Corynna of Hudsonville, Mich., Jeen Boer and his wife Jo of Sheldon, Ed Boer and his wife Fran of Byron Center, Mich., Harlon Boer and his wife Joan of Hospers, Dale Boer and his wife Karen of Sheldon and Roger Boer of Sheldon; 38 grandchildren; 88 great-grandchildren; eight great-great-grandchildren; a sister. Tena Klein of Grand Rapids, Mich.; a stepsister, Greta Uittenbogaard of Sheldon; and two sisters-in law, Rena Boer of Grand Rapids and Florence Muckey of Parker, S.D.

She was preceded in death by a son-in law, Ralph Bootsma; three grandchildren, Conley Bootsma, Mark Boer and Samuel Boer; a great-grandchild, Kirk Van Engen; and two great-great-grandchildren, Jon and Leah Van Engen.
