Robert (Hoby) moved to Kannapolis in 1937 & graduated from J.W.Cannon H.S. in 1940. Hoby and his late wife, Helen (Roberts) Ellison were married Jan. 31, 1942. He served in World War II in the U.S. Army's 148th Medical Unit as an X-ray technician on the island of Saipan. It was 4 1/2 yrs. before he was reunited with his bride. He retired from Cannon Mills Co. after 50 yrs. of service.
