Earl Lamar Nielsen, 87, passed away on Wednesday, June 23, 1999, in American Fork.
Born August 30, 1911 in Salt Lake City to Andrew Alma and Ivie Eleanora Olson Nielsen.
Married Rosemary Hodson, May 27, 1938 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.
She preceded him in death on October 10, 1998.
He was raised on a farm in Vernon, Tooele County, Utah.
Graduated from Tooele High School and Brigham Young University.
He taught school in Vernon, in the Uintah Basin and in the Granite School District in Salt Lake City before joining the LDS Seminary system where he taught in Tooele and American Fork.
After retirement, he worked with people with disabilities in the Jordan School District.
He was a distributor for the Newspaper Agency Corporation for both the Deseret News and the Salt Lake Tribune for many years.
Active in the LDS Church, he served a mission to the North Central States and later, with his wife, to the Liberty Jail visitor center and to Ogalalla, Nebraska.
Served in numerous stake and ward positions and at the Salt Lake and Provo Temples.
Survived by a daughter and son, Mary Kay Searle of American Fork and Gerald Nielsen of Orem; 17 grandchildren; 47 great-grandchildren; two sisters, Ann (Doyle) Shields of American Fork and Aurelia Swenson of Tooele; a sister-in-law, Mae (Melvin) Jensen, Monroe; and many nieces and nephews.
Special thanks is given to the caretakers at Heritage Care Center for their thoughtful and caring assistance over the past several months.
Funeral services will be held Monday, June 28, 1999 at 11 a.m. at the American Fork LDS 3rd Ward, 165 North 350 West, American Fork.
Friends may call Sunday evening from 6 to 8 p.m. at the church and Monday one hour prior to services.
Interment, American Fork City Cemetery.
Services are under the direction of Berg Mortuary of Provo.
