Rosemary Hodson Nielsen, age 86, died Oct. 10, 1998, in the Utah Valley Regional Medical Center in Provo, of causes incident to age.

She was born August 5, 1912 in Provo, Utah, to Israel W. and Lucretia Singleton Hodson, the sixth of seven children.

She grew up in Provo, Utah and attended the old Parker Elementary and Provo High School.

After graduation, she attended Brigham Young University and graduated with a normal certificate in elementary education.

She taught school in Wallsberg, Tabiona, Midway and Salt Lake City.

She was a devoted member of the LDS Church, and served in many positions.

She was Relief Society president and taught in Relief Society for 28 years.

She also served in the Young Womens organization.

She performed many endowments in the Salt Lake and Provo Temples.

She and her husband Earl served a mission at the Liberty Jail in Liberty, Missouri.

She was an active genealogist.

She was a member of the Philadea Study Group and met each month with long time friends.

She was a poet and a writer, and had poetry published in the Utah Sings Publication.

She met Earl L. Nielsen while attending BYU and they were married May 27, 1938 in the Salt Lake LDS Temple.

In 1946 they adopted three children, Brent, Mary Kay, and Jerry Nielsen.

Rosemary is survived by her husband of 61 years; a daughter, Mary Kay Searle, of American Fork; and a son, Gerald Nielsen, of Orem; a sister, Mae (Melvin) Jenson, of Monroe, Utah; brother and sister-in-law, Ann (Doyle) Shields, of American Fork; sister-in-law, Aurelia Swenson, of Tooele; 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son and a granddaughter.

A special thanks to Dr. John Bezzant, his nurse Kathy, and IHC home health nurses and aide, and special friends , Vicki Koop and Polly Block for their many acts of caring.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, October 15, 1998, at 12 noon, at the American Fork 3rd Ward LDS Chapel, 680 North 350 West.

Friends may call Wednesday evening, from 6-8 p.m., at the Ward Chapel, or Thursday morning, one hour prior to services.

Interment, American Fork City Cemetery.

Services under the direction of Berg Mortuary of Provo.
