" I have a correction for the children of Rev. John Rice. His son Joseph L. is my 3rd great grandfather. His wife's name was Amanda Jane Garrett. I can send you documentation if you like as I realize that the O'Neil name has been passed around incorrectly for years. At this time I an not certain where Joseph is buried but am looking forward to one day being able to link him to his father on Find a Grave."

ESTATE:
An inventory/sale of Rev. Rice's belongings and the distribution of his fifty three acres to his family members is on file at the Mercer County Court House, Harrodsburg, Ky.
i.e.Deed Book 24-page 177 Mar. 15,1844
"William Rice and Mary his wife of Mercer Co. to A.G.Talbott of same, for $220., 6 and 1/2 acres land on Shawnee Run and being lot no 7 allotted to them from estate of John Rice,deceased.
Sig.:William -Mary Rice
Acknowledged in Mercer Co.and recorded, Mar. 16 1844."

It appears that the home of John Rice and the immediate surroundings(identified as lot 5) were given to Mariah and her husband, Fredrich Bradshaw. Since Mariah died in 1840, it is possible that she and her husband were serving as caregivers to John Rice. Info from the John Rice will.

The above titled booklet is available at the Kentucky Historical Society, Frankfort, Ky. It was compiled by Arland W. Benningfield, Jr. and Walter Lee Bradshaw descendants of early members of the Church. This is a typed copy of the original minutes of the Church, established November 21, 1788 by Reverend Rice.

Revolutionary War Veteran
Pension Application: "I was born in Prince Edward Co VA & resided there when the ARW began. Enlisted in the spring of 1779, (while on my way to Kentucky) in Montgomery Co, VA near Chissels Mine, as a Scout against the Indians. In 1791 I removed to KY & settled in Mercer Co, KY."
