Obituary for Candace Wilhelm Hunter

Pioneer Passes To Final Call
Had Resided in River Falls and Vicinity For Fifty Years, Was Well Known

Mrs. Candace Wilhelm Hunter, one of the pioneer residents of Pierce county died at her home in the town of Troy, August 28,1917, of heart disease. Her illness being less than an hour duration.

Deceased was born in Warren, Ohio, December 29, 1846, coming to this country in the early sixties with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Rudesill, who located on Rush River near New Centerville.

On December 25, 1867, she was united in marriage to Franklin Wilhelm, of the town of Rush River, St. Croix county. By this union nine children were born, all of whom survive her. Mrs. Julia Spencer of Union, Montana, S. Eugene Wilhelm, of Mason, Wisconsin; Emma Wilhelm of Circle, Montana, Andrew and Warren Wilhelm of Baldwin, Willis Wilhelm of Drummond, Wisconsin; Lewellyn Wilhelm of Baldwin, Ira and Harry Wilhelm of River Falls. All of whom were present at the funeral.

She is survived by two brothers and three sisters, Calvin and Edward Rudesill, who reside in Washington, Adeline Wilhelm, New Centerville, Jane Snoke of Chetek and Mrs. Amelia Hampton being present at the funeral.

On March 1, 1884, her husband while felling a tree was accidentally killed. She as a mother raised her children the best she could, remaining a widow seventeen years. In 1901 she was married to Frank Hunter of Palmer, Wisconsin, where she resided with her husband til last December when he removed to the town of Troy, where she resided until summoned by death. Mr. Hunter, her husband survives her.

The funeral services were held at the New Centerville church Saturday, September 1, and her remains laid to rest besides those of her first husband. Rev. D. B. Spencer of this city officiating.

Mrs. Hunter had been a member of the Rush River M. E. church for over thirty years. She was a firm believer in that faith. She was a faithful wife, a loving member and a kind neighbor. Her passing removes one of the pioneers of this vicinity. Expressions of sympathy is extended to the bereaved relatives.
