Michael's father was Michael Hoover, baptized Johann Michael Huber in Germany Township, York County, Pennsylvania on 13 March 1774. He died, presumably in DC, around 1821. He appears in DC Ward 3 in the 1820 census, but none thereafter. Barbara Hoover is listed in the 1822 city directory, which would not have happened unless she was a widow; presumably Michael died about 1821. Other children born to this couple were John, b. 1798 in Pennsylvania, died 28 March 1889 in DC; William, b. June 1804 in Maryland, died in DC 23 February 1884 in DC; Samuel, b. 12 September 1812 in DC, died August 1863 in DC.
Michael married his first wife, Clarissa Johnes 10 Jan 1827. The National Intelligencer Newspaper Abstracts have an item dated Thursday, April 8, 1830 as follows: 'Died: yesterday, in Wash City, after a short and painful indisposition, Mrs. Clarissa Hoover, consort of Mr. Michl. Hoover, in her 29th year. Funeral from her late residence on 7th st, at 3 o'clock.' Her burial place is unknown.
Michael married Mary Tweedy 10 May 1831 in Washington, DC.
