Robert was the son of James and Agnes (Scott) Forrest.

Robert died on the Valley Farm in Jackson Township. He married for his second wife Christina Smith on 14 July 1843 in Scotland.

They came to Linn County, Iowa on 23 May 1858 with six children and three more were born here. All nine children are linked.
