Ivan "Mike" Laurie, 75, of Gillespie, formerly of Litchfield, died Sun., Sept. 6, 2009 at 6:40 a.m. in St. Francis Hospital in Litchfield. He was born on Jan. 6, 1934 in Clearwater, KS, a son of Robert & Lena (Barnett) Laurie. He graduated from Litchfield High School. He served with the U. S. Air Force from 1953 until 1957 during the Korean War. Because of his lifelong interest in aviation & space projects he became an aircraft mechanic working for McDonnell Aircraft & Garrett Aviation. As part of his job with McDonnell Aircraft, he had the honor of working on the Mercury Project at Cape Canaveral, Florida. After retirement he worked for Niehaus Cycle Sales in Litchfield. Mr. Laurie was working on getting his pilot's license at the time of his illness. He was a member of Goldwing Road Riders Chapter E, American Legion Post# 436 in Litchfield & Coal Dusters RC Club. He & Carolyn Rae Pine were married on June 27, 1955 in St. Michael The Archangel Catholic Church in Staunton.
She survives. He is also survived by:
1 son, Kevin Laurie (companion Joan Vazzi) of Springfield
2 daughters, Javene (Richard) Willows; Brenda (Scott) Korunka,
All of Mt. Olive
2 grandsons, Jason (Jennifer) Willows & Brandon Willows
1 great-granddaughter, Alice Willows
1 brother, Martin (Ruth) Laurie of Lebanon, IL
2 sisters, June Fletcher & Charlotte Lowe, Both of Litchfield
He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 brothers, Robert, Harvey, Don & James Laurie; 3 sisters, Ella Morrison, Annie Robbins & Barbara Morgan.
Funeral Information
Funeral services will be held Wed., Sept. 9, 2009 at 11 a.m. in Plummer Funeral Home in Litchfield.
Rev. Dennis Hill, of Litchfield, will officiate. Burial will be in Bethel Ridge Cemetery near Atwater. Visitation will be held Tuesday from 5 until 8 p.m. in the funeral home.

The family suggests memorials to American Cancer Society or St. Timothy United Methodist Church Building Fund in Litchfield.
