OBITUARY:
Frank B. Liphardt was born on December 31, 1866, to John and Maria (Erhke) Liphardt and died on Thursday, March 10, 1949, at Rock Island, IL. at the age of 82 years, 2 months and 9 days. He had been in failing health for the past seven years.
Mr. Liphard received his schooling in Illinois and studied violin in Chicago, He was Johnson County Sheriff from 1927-35. Previous to that time he had farmed near Graf for 33 years and later, in 1915, he operated an auto agency in Tecumseh, Ne. Before settling in Graf he was a barber in Chicago for three years.
Mr.Liphardt came as an early settler in Graf in 1882, where he was united in marriage to Francesca D. Ernst on August 25, 1892. To this union two daughters were born, Geneva and Nellie. The latter passed away three years ago. Mrs. Liphardt preceded her husband in death in 1942.
Mr. and Mrs. Liphard had one of the most elaborate weddings held in this county up to that time. There were 500 guest present and they received gifts that set them up in houekeeping with everything but a kitchen range.
After Mrs. Liphardt's death Mr. Liphard lived with his daughter Nellie, and her husband, Fred Wirick., and family at Kimball, Ne. After his daughter's death he moved to Rock Island, IL. where he was cared for by his siter. Miss Nellie Liphardt. and her friend, Miss Martha Baker, both trained nurses.
Mr. Liphardt helped with the first section of a drainage ditch three mile north of TableRock, dug in 1886 for the railroad.
Mr. Liphardt was confirmed in the Lutheran church and later joined the Tecumseh Methodist Church. Serving on the official board for 15 years. He served on the Tecumseh city council for two terms. He was a member of the I.O.O.F. Lodge and Rebekah Lodge. While farming the actively cooperated with the state agricultural college in carrying on various soil and other tests.
Among the surviveros were his daughter, Mrs. Geneva Weaver of San Francisco, CA. two sisters, Miss Nellie Liphardt of Rock Ilsand, IL. and Mrs. Mamie Quick. one granddaguther, two grandson, one great granddaughter and several nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held in Tecumseh Monday, at 2:00 p.m. from the Methodist church. Rev. Leonard J. Mettling, pastor of the church. officiated. Burial was in the Tecumseh Cemeterey.
