John W. Payne
Apr. 24, 1857 - Feb. 24, 1939

John W. Payne. 81 years old, passed away suddenly at his home one mile north of Dresden. Death was due to heart trouble. Dr. Gordon Stauffacher, coroner, was notified and went to the home and said an inquest was not necessary. With Mr. Payne at the time of his death was his wife. He was born in the Hopewell community and resided in Pettis County his entire life. Surviving is his widow, Mrs. Malinda Payne; two children, Isaac Payne and Mrs. Lucille Fulton, both of Sedalia; also a brother, S. R. Payne of Kansas City; two sisters, Mrs. Lucy McNutt of the Green Ridge community and Mrs. Susie Salmon of Beaman. Three grand­ children and two great grandchil­dren also survive.
Funeral services will be held at the Hopewell Chapel Sunday afternoon, with Rev. Sumners officiat­ing. Pallbearers will be six nephews of the deceased, and interment will be in the Hopewell Cemetery.
