Robert Peter was a storekeeper and tobacco merchant who established an import/export trade in Bladensburg, Maryland after his immigration in 1745. In 1789 he was elected the first Mayor of Georgetown, now part of the District of Columbia.
His 'John Hancock' is the 1st signature on the document, signed with 18 other property owners, who sold to George Washington - yeah that George - some of their land holdings for the formation and creation of the city that was to become Washington, D.C.
