Mrs Van Dyke lived in this vicinity nearly all her life. She was a daughter of Isaac Van Bree, born in the Netherlands, Nieuwerkerk Aan Den Ijsel. Death took her mother when she was but two years old. With her father, brothers and sister she came to this country in 1856 and therefore shared somewhat in the hardships of pioneer life. Married at an early age to Hendrik B. Van Dyke, for about twenty years they lived on a farm two mile south of this city. About twenty-seven years ago moved to Zeekland. Ten children were born to them of whom one died in infancy about forty-four years ago. besides her husband, nine children survive her, Mrs. Doeke Bos of Noordeloos, Isaac Van Dyke, Mrs. G. Van Lopik, Bert G. Van Dyke, "Arie Van Dyke, Mrs. Matt Pellegrom, Gerrit Van Dyke, and Miss Jeanette Van Dyke all of this city, and Mrs. Bert Timmer of Grand Rapids. Of her brothers and sisters, Gerrit Van Bree enlisted in the army during the Civil war and was reported amoung the missing and presumably died in Andersonville prison. Frank Van Bree died about a year ago, Arie Van Bree and Mrs. D. Vyn are both living in Grand Rapids.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon, March first, from the First Reformed church of which she was a member, Revs. Cheff and Hoffman officiating. Her sons and sons-in law served as pall bearers. Interment in Zeeland cemetery.
