An implement dealer for several decades in Zeeland, he organized and served as president and director of the Michigan Implement Dealers association.
Mr. VanDyke also was on the city council several years and served as mayor from 1917 to 1918. He was a member of the Ottawa county board of supervisors and served 47 years as a volunteer Zeeland fireman, retiring recently.
A member of Zeland Second Reformed church, he helped found the Mission Syndicate, a men's fund-raising group of the Holland-Zeeland Reformed church area, and was a member of his church consistory.
Surviving are his wife, Katherine; son, Russell of Rochester, N.Y.; daughter, Miss Dorothy Van Dyke of Grand Rapids; brother, Gerrit of Zeeland; sister Mrs Jeannette Wiggers of Grand Rapids; two grandchildren and three great-grandchidren. Another sister, Mrs Marie Pellegrom of Holland, died Friday shortly after hearing of Mr. VanDykes death, and a son, LaVerne D., was killed in World War II.
Funeral servies will be held at 2 Monday in the Zeeland Second Reformed church with burial in Zeeland cemetery. The body is at the Baron funeral home here.
